Orchids have a reputation as the divas of the plant world: fussy, difficult-to-grow plants that - on top of all that - are prohibitively expensive. But there are plenty of orchids that anyone can grow. Orchids are no more difficult than familiar house plants such as African violets and can be made to thrive and bloom in average indoor conditions - you just need to know what makes them happy. "Bloom-Again Orchids" highlights the easiest, most fuss-free varieties and includes invaluable tips on where to buy orchids and how to keep them in bloom. Each of the fifty profiles focuses on a commonly available orchid variety and includes a description, photograph, chart of basic growing requirements, and a handy twelve-point checklist. So if you've always been intrigued by orchids but were nervous about caring for them, put your worries aside. "Bloom-Again Orchids" will turn you from a would-be orchid fan into the proud owner of healthy blooming plants.

Review Text

Having used, and reviewed, many hundreds of beginners books on orchids over the last 50 years I can quite seriously state that this is one of the most useful so far published. It deals with a selection of the widely obtainable species, greges and cultivars in the major orchid growing countries and explains the individual plants idiosyncrasies as well as the requirements for it to grow and bloom in a variety of situations.

I bought this book as a birthday gift for a Head Gardener who is a friend, and his comment was that the book was well layed out and easy to read and he found it as very informative

I purchased this book, as although I have owned orchids for about 8 years, my success has been more by good luck than actual knowledge. I currently have 11 orchids but of 3 different types, I chose this book as its very title Bloom - Again Orchids suggested it would enable me to ensure that I no longer relied on "Pot-Luck" but actually understood what I was doing. The book is beautifully illustrated, with 50 orchids featured, the start of the book has 9 pages of illustrations and text introducing orchids and 'Basic' knowledge for beginners, followed by, short section of 10 Best Tips for growing orchids. There follows 50 recommendations of easy to care for orchids in their different types with a lovely colour plate of each orchid on one page and specific care on facing page. I think it is an excellent book for a beginner, as it gives easy to read information on how to care for each individual species of orchid. I was only disappointed by the fact having been written by an American? possibly aimed at orchid owners in the USA as she suggests at rear of book to join the American Orchid Society. Many of the named orchids in the book I have never seen before at the locations where I purchase my orchids e.g. Large retail garden centres, supermarkets or flower shops. So though the book was excellent for giving info. on how to care for various species such as Oncidium, Dendrobium, Phalaenopsis etc. if you fell in love with a particular featured orchid it may be hard to acquire it.

I am a beginner in Orchids, but I only intend to stay at a window-sill level. This book had given me some practical advice on what orchid species; I can grow on my Southern window.I also found an advice to choose Ascocenda instead of Vanda, given that Ascocenda is similar to Vanda, but a smaller, and, thus easier to manage, plant.
